Rodents

Rodents are a common nuisance in the State of Florida. Rats, mice, and squirrels are the most problematic rodents for a homeowner as they can cause significant damage. Rats and mice are nocturnal and most activity occurs at night. Squirrels are not nocturnal, they are also arboreal(fancy word for they live in trees), where rats and mice will invade both crawlspaces and attics. Rodents can enter your home through open spaces that you may not be aware of. For example, roof lines that are not properly sealed, soffits that may not be sealed or have an opening. Rodents have also been known to make nests in cars that are not in use, they will build nests in the engine space, and cause damage by chewing through the wires. Various manufacturers use soy-based wiring in some vehicles to be eco-friendly, which is very appealing to most rodents.

How do I know if I Need Michael's Termite And Pest Control for Rodent Control?

The main way to identify rodents within your household would be by the droppings they leave behind. If you encounter any of these signs there is a good chance you have rodents within your home:

  • Hear scratching and scurrying noises in the attic, walls, or crawlspaces
  • Droppings and urine are left wherever rodents travel or rest
  • A distinctive, musky odor
  • Urine stains can be seen under a black light and sometimes fluorescent lighting
  • Gnaw marks
  • Rub marks from body oil, grease and dirt along their runways

I have a Rodent problem. Now What?

Michael's Termite And Pest Control will provide you with a thorough inspection and plan specialized for your needs. This may include excluding entry points, removing food sources and harborage areas to eliminate future infestations of your structure, a trapping program to eliminate the existing rodent population, and possibly bait stations around the exterior of your structure to help prevent future infestations.
